Economic regeneration and growth are at the heart of West Sussex County Council’s (WSCC) ‘Future West Sussex Plan 2015-19’. This four-year plan includes a range of economic priorities and proposals for ‘Bold Ideas’.
WSCC, the University of Chichester, Arun District Council, and other key partners, are all working together to progress the ‘Bold Idea’ for Bognor Regis, which addresses the specific economic and demographic challenges that exist in the town. The University’s plan to build a new Engineering and Digital Technology Park, alongside evidence of the enormous contribution digital and creative businesses can make to a town and the local economy, have led WSCC to focus on the creative digital sector as the catalyst for economic growth for Bognor Regis.
The Bognor Regis project aims to develop a creative and digital community, which can help grow exciting new businesses and attract like-minded people to the town by establishing a creative digital hub in the town centre.
A space for the creative digital hub has been identified by WSCC and located at two unused Victorian waiting rooms at Bognor Regis train station. Lease negotiations are currently being discussed, which once completed the renovation and design of the Hub space can begin. Other people involved in the project are Wired Sussex, who have been sharing their insight based on their experience of the creative digital sector and engaging with the community in Brighton, and Hemingway Design is on board to develop the branding and design.
The launch of the Bognor Regis Creative Digital Hub is planned for Summer 2018 and will be where digital and creative business owners, freelancers and people wanting to develop new business ideas, can collaborate and be part of a network of like-minded individuals. There will also be meeting space for workshops and events.
