Bognor Regis Creative Digital Hub January Check-in

Last Thursday (Jan 25th), we invited local business owners and professionals from Bognor’s creative digital community to join us for our first event in 2018.

Our January Check-in took place at The Pier Hotel and Bar in Waterloo Square, where guests were invited along for some informal networking and speed-pitching.

Guests were welcomed by West Sussex County Council’s Economic Growth Team, who are leading the project to develop the Creative Digital Hub in Bognor Regis railway station.

The event was kicked off by opening up the floor for some fun speed-pitching. Anyone who wished to talk was allotted 3 minutes to introduce themselves and their creative digital business. Whoever was closet to the time was in with the chance of winning a prize. (A box of chocolates – later shared round the group in true community spirit!)

We heard from some great businesses including Clive Loseby from Access By Design. A website design company based in Chichester who delivers bespoke sites for clients. Clive spoke about the uniqueness of their product and how each of their websites is produced with accessibility across platforms in mind.

We were also joined by Daisy from Toastmasters, an international organisation made up of local clubs that gather to practice communication and public speaking. Daisy told us that the most beneficial factors in joining the group are the widening of your professional skills and confidence.

Others were keen to share their hopes for what the hub space could mean for them. This was the ideal time for the Hub team to update the group on the progress of the Creative Digital Hub.

They updated the community with the fantastic news that the project has been awarded £500,000 worth of funding from the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership. This funding will help with the physical fit out of the space at the Bognor Regis railway station.

Guests were also informed that the project is now in the process of procuring an operator to run the Hub on behalf of WSCC. This will take a few months, but we hope to have an operator in place in the spring.

Last month Network Rail and the rail franchise operator GTR unveiled the newly-refurbished Bognor Reigs railway station. The Hub space is looking fabulous, and Wayne Hemingway and his team will be undertaking the detailed design work soon.

The evening finished with the feeling of progress in the air. There was then the chance for questions and networking over a drink or two and the delicious spread provided by The Pier.
